Today’s Living Word – Healthy Body, Soul and Spirit

4–6 minutes

Jesus Christ to the Church:

When you are trying to be healthier, you look at what you are eating and that is a good start, but not a complete picture. All that goes into your body is important, the medicine or supplements you may be taking, food and certainly anything you drink. Consider what you may be putting on your skin and the quality of air you breathe. Then take a look at how you move and exercise your body. Life is movement and the more you exercise your joints, muscles and put weight on your bones, the stronger and more agile you become. After all of that, you must also have good rest and be in a peaceful place to relax, refresh and restore. That’s when your bodies clean up, mend and grow new cells to support life. If any of these components go awry or are neglected, your physical health may be compromised. If one is completely ignored for the long term, life fails. You cannot live without moving, or food or water or rest.

Your spiritual and mental health are much the same. There are many aspects and components to maintaining a healthy mental and spiritual balance. Good mental health may be strongly affected by your diet, hormonal balance, stress, and relationships with friends and family. What information you take in from books, TV and other screens will affect your thinking. There are also many drugs, medications and things you eat and drink that can alter your mental health. Who do you share your heart with and do they encourage and uplift you? Good choices lead to good mental, physical and spiritual health.

And what of your spiritual lives, my brothers and sisters, that most important part of your being? This is the only part of you that is eternal and will continue to live on forever. What can you do each day to be healthy and strong spiritually? The principles that affect your body and mind are the same that support or diminish your spiritual life. Your spiritual lives are fed by spiritual food, – the Word of God, and by me, the Bread of Life. I am your daily bread and those who know me and walk in me each day are fed a steady and nutrient rich diet of spiritual nourishment. I have given each of you the spirit of living waters from our Father in heaven. All life, wisdom and power flows from Him through Me and to you.

For some, the spirit is received and sits unused and idle without any flow or activity. For some it is a constant connection and drawing of energized power, wisdom and refreshing that flows to you and through you. Your spiritual capacity to receive truth and power depends on your faithfulness to seek connection with us in all you do. Study the Word, pray in the spirit, listen, meditate and feed your spirit with the best quality nourishment you can get. Be strong in body, soul, and spirit, but especially in spirit.

Today’s Written Word

I Thessalonians 5:23 And the very God of peace sanctify you wholly; and I pray God your whole spirit and soul and body be preserved blameless unto the coming of our Lord Jesus Christ.

Acts 14:17 Nevertheless he left not himself without witness, in that he did good, and gave us rain from heaven, and fruitful seasons, filling our hearts with food and gladness.

Colossians 2:19 And not holding the Head, from which all the body by joints and bands having nourishment ministered, and knit together, increaseth with the increase of God.

John 6:33 For the bread of God is he which cometh down from heaven, and giveth life unto the world.

II Corinthians 13:3 Since ye seek a proof of Christ speaking in me, which to you-ward is not weak, but is mighty in you.

Ezekiel 47:12 And by the river upon the bank thereof, on this side and on that side, shall grow all trees for meat, whose leaf shall not fade, neither shall the fruit thereof be consumed: it shall bring forth new fruit according to his months, because their waters they issued out of the sanctuary: and the fruit thereof shall be for meat, and the leaf thereof for medicine.

A Word of Encouragement

Let’s seek nourishment for our spirit in God’s written Word today. We fellowship with Him and Christ, walking and talking and praying in the spirit throughout each day to flow with them. We
can make good choices in what we take in to support a healthy spiritual walk, not allowing negative or harmful images, information, relationships, foods or substances to distract us from a healthy, vibrant life in Christ. Out with the bad and in with the perfect. We can do it!

An Action Item

Christ is describing how to be fit, well-nourished and daily exercising our spirit. We put on the word, spend time in prayer and listening and stay focused on him and our Father God throughout each day to be well nourished. That sounds like a strong athlete or warrior for Christ. As we take care to feed and exercise our body, soul and especially our spirit, we gain stamina and maturity to compete in the spiritual competition like an Olympic champion. Let’s be champions, not couch potatoes. Being a couch potato is a current description or condition. Our true identity is victorious warriors in Christ Jesus, for he has overcome every challenge.
