Today’s Living Word -Precious Gems

5–7 minutes

God our Father speaks prophecy:

Come unto me my precious gems, and find the polishing and faceting you need to reveal your sparkle. You are each unique and rare in this world. How many plain brown rocks are there? And how many rubies or emeralds? Any precious stone has been formed over time and with pressure and heat, as have you. They must be uncovered, have the unwanted debris chipped and buffed away, then be cut to reflect the light in the most brilliant way. Diamonds are called brilliant stones. A round shape is called a brilliant cut because it reflects the most light through the stone to give it the greatest sparkle. I am constantly chipping away at the parts of your life and thoughts that are shadowing your true identity in me, the dark soil of the flesh that hinders your ability to shine forth. There is no benefit to having a ruby on your finger that is hidden under a layer of granite or marble. It would not be seen, but covered up and weighing you down.

As your Lord Christ works in you to let go of those things that are hindering your spiritual walk, you will shine brighter for me. Chip away at those things that burden you and let them fall away. A lapidary does not collect all the debris he has polished off of the ruby to keep it. He keeps the valuable stone and throws away the excess. Do you have excess habits or things you circle around over and over again that are wasting your time or hindering your ability to shine for me? Are there thoughts that linger or distract you from the joy filled abundant life that can be cast out? Change that.

The final step in revealing a precious stone is cutting or faceting it. A jeweler may examine and contemplate the process with great diligence and deliberation to retain the most size while still revealing the best qualities of each individual stone. I do not need to go through that process with my children. I can see exactly what makes you shine. I know the thoughts of your minds, the desires of your hearts and all of the very particular qualities each of you have as my children, for I have made you. I have created my spirit within you to light up your lives and shine forth for me. No one can see a precious gem in a dark room, so walk out of the darkness and into my glorious light. Be in my presence my beloved; reflect my glory, light and love and shine as the brilliant gems you are to me!

A Word of Encouragement

Who can find a virtuous woman? For her price is far above rubies! Proverbs 31:10 God uses the precious stones He has made to illustrate rarity, strength, beauty, attraction, value, desirability and many other qualities in His word to us. He calls us His precious gems, and in James we are the precious fruit of the earth. We are rare and of great value to God. He has made each of us special and unique like a rare stone. Every day we are being polished as God uncovers our spiritual beauty. Let’s see ourselves as God sees us – His precious children whom He has placed His spirit within so we can shine and sparkle!

An Action Item

When praying this morning the song came to mind “If I had a million dollars”. It is a silly song, but the idea is that if money was not a consideration, the songwriter would do what he wanted and not be constrained by finances. What would you do with your life or your day today if you had unlimited resources. Do you have a dream that is yet to come true? A vision for a business, or book or project you want to accomplish that you feel is inspired of God? Would you stop doing certain behaviors or throw away the “excess” in your life, knowing that you have an unlimited supply to replace it all? What is of real value in our lives?

We are the children of the most High God. He is our source of abundance. God owns everything, and will give richly all that we desire. Ephesians 3:20. Let’s recognize his sovereignty and providence and get rid of the excess in our lives, the time wasters, space wasters, and ungodly behaviors. We can chip away the waste and shine.
